Jamestown Lightened

From dawn to dusk, Jamestown lightens Accra, Ghana’s capital, everyday. Despite being less developed than other parts of the city, Jamestown is the capital’s historic district and the main fishing quarter, where you can also find little shops to drink malt and eat fufu, kenkey or even better, groundnut soup.

Originally built in 1871, Jamestown’s lighthouse, its iconic landmark, guides fishermen to shore and local buyers to its harbor alike. Not surprisingly, Jamestown’s economy is based on its fisheries, including the smoked-fish shops run by women. Jamestown is, in a nutshell, lightened by its history, idiosyncrasy, and culinary traditions.
